Under the FDA’s Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) companies are required to identify hazards that may be associated with their products and formulate control strategies for those hazards.  This effects  most in the supply chain as it includes anyone who manufactures, processes, packs, distributes, receives, holds or imports perishable products where there is a reasonable chance that improper exposures can lead to adverse health risks or death.

The FDA requires an audit trail that demonstrates potential hazards were identified and monitored.
